POE (Power Over Ethernet) is a technology solution that, under the case of no any change for current Ethernet Cat5 wiring/cabling infrastructure, not only transfer data signal but also provide direct current power for some IP based terminal device (like IP telephony, Wireless LAN access point, Network camera, etc.).
POE technology can minimize the cost while ensuring the normal operation of the existing network and the safety of the existing structured cabling.
POE also known as power system based on local area network (POL, Power over LAN) or Active Ethernet, sometimes it is briefly called Power Over Ethernet, this is the latest standard specification of transferring data and delivering power while taking advantage of existing standard Ethernet transmission cable, and preserve the compatibility between user and the existing Ethernet system.
IEEE 802.3 is new standard of POE in the base of Ethernet power system, which add related standard in power over network cable directly through IEEE 802.3, it’s an extension of existing Ethernet standard, and it is also the first international standard in power distribution.
